Please visit our New Blog!!!

Yes... That's right. This is the last post in this blog. We've been busy designing our new blogsite -- featuring even larger images, easier site navigation, an inline comment facility, and a closer branding tie-in with our brushed silver and burgundy color scheme.

On May 7, we launched our new blog residing at www.david-nicholas.com. Our former blog will remain active as an archive, but all new items from May 2008 forward will be posted on our new blogsite.

So please be sure to take a moment and update your bookmarks and optional RSS feeds accordingly. We have big plans for our new blog, so please don't miss out on this great new window into our world of "capturing life's most memorable moments".

Thank you... and we hope to see you again at www.david-nicholas.com!

Clear Bucks County Skies Provided Stunning Views of Wednesday Night's Total Lunar Eclipse

For those who ventured outside into the chilly 25-degree temps late Wednesday evening, they were treated to a first-class Total Lunar Eclipse courtesy of Mother Nature. Here's a sampling of lunar images captured at various times throughout the evening...

Here's my very first shot at 10:25PM EST, when the moon was already completely eclipsed in the Earth's shadow, giving the moon a noticeably reddish brown tint amidst a sea of stars that normally wouldn't be visible. I was just casually hand-holding the camera for this photo.

Then... realizing the potential for capturing some serious lunar imagery... I went back inside, layered up with some extra-warm clothing, and returned with the heavyweight 400mm F2.8 lens paired with my Canon 1Ds Mark II camera and tripod for the remaining set of images captured on the back end of the eclipse.

At 11:29PM EST... still some reddish brown tint to the moon, and you can see the Earth's shadow was very distinct, revealing a brilliantly lit moon beneath it. This image was exposed for the upper portion of the moon still in the Earth's shadow...

By 11:35PM EST... the Earth's shadow was becoming a bit less distinct. The next two images were exposed for the lower portion of the moon coming out of the Earth's shadow into the "normal" evening light.

At 11:44PM EST... the Earth's shadow continued to recede upward, revealing more of the moon...

And around 12:30AM EST -- roughly 20 minutes after the eclipse officially ended... here's our full moon completely out of the Earth's shadow and bringing a noticeable brightness back to the evening sky. The next Total Lunar Eclipse viewable in this part of the world won't occur until December 2010.

Lady Patriots Win SOL Continental Conference Girls Basketball Crown

Congratulations go out to the Lady Patriots for their 2008 SOL Continental Conference Girls Basketball Championship with a 12-2 conference season (and 15-8 overall regular season through Friday, February 1st). The Lady Patriots have one remaining regular season game against Delaware County's Springfield HS this week before heading into district playoffs next week. However, their 48-32 victory over Hatboro-Horsham last Friday evening secured their championship standing this season in the SOL Contintental Conference.

The following photo was captured just prior to the start of Friday's game against the Lady Hatters during the CB East "pre-game huddle". We can't always plan candid team photos like this one, but the spontaneous moment presented itself and we captured 12 fabulous smiling faces:

In addition, we've included several photo highlights from Friday evening's game below, and each image has been mastered with a special technique that gives the image a vibrant, nostalgic sports billboard "look-and-feel". A 2008 season photo gallery for C.B. East Girls Basketball will be posted in the online proofing section of our website very soon. Enjoy!!!

CR North Breaks CB East's Undefeated Wrestling Season with a 38-26 Victory

The Indians of Council Rock North handed the Patriots their first 2008 season loss with a final score of 38-26 in last night's wrestling match. The Patriots are now 8-1 for the season overall, and 1-1 in their league conference.

With the Council Rock North gymnasium lights dimmed low for wrestling, our multiple off-camera strobes helped produce some very dramatic lighting effects for the action images captured during the match. We've included 10 photo highlights below, and 90 new images have also been added to the "C.B. East Varsity Wrestling 2008 Season" photo gallery located on our website.

Our next scheduled photo coverage for C.B. East wrestling will be Saturday, January 19th when the Patriots host the Golden Hawks of Council Rock South.

C.B. South Varsity Football Wrap-Up

Our "post-season football" action sports coverage took us into C.B. South Titans territory this year as we photographed two District One playoff games at the Titans home stadium in Warrington. In what proved to be their final game this season, the Titans demonstrated championship-class football even into the game's final seconds with offensive drives that erased much of the persistent lead held by Downingtown West throughout the game. Battling back from a 24-17 deficit at half-time, the Titans last scoring attempt came up just short as time expired with a final score of 45-38 in favor of Downingtown West.

Below are some photo highlights from Round 2 in the PIAA 2007 Class AAAA district playoffs... followed by another exclusive David Nicholas Creatives slideshow!

And since the response to our first Titans slideshow was so positive, we produced one more for playoff game 2... so turn up your PC's audio, click on the "play" icon below and enjoy!!!
